In fairness, of all the genres that try their hand at poker, comedy usually gets the best response from poker fans. ![]() If they are not putting the characters into extreme situations, they use poker as a setting with which to showcase some of the funnier traits of the lead characters. Most long running sitcoms have a poker episode, which usually ends either with one of the characters getting in too deep after initially going on a hot streak, or it turning into an impromptu game of strip poker. Why is it that since both Rounders and the poker boom, we are yet to see that second great poker movie, or a good poker based TV drama? ![]() With the exception of Rounders, it is rare that poker is portrayed in fiction in a way in which serious poker players find enjoyable. Elsewhere on the small screen, the popular new HBO drama Luck featured some poker scenes in their pilot episode. This month two new poker movies were announced as about to hit our screens, All In: The Poker Movie and The King's Men.
